Palazzo Talamo is where we stayed in Positano and it did not disappoint. This mid-range hotel had an incredible outdoor terrace where we enjoyed our morning coffee and sunset cocktails.

This hotel has been family run for 3 generations. It is an excellent location and you can take the nearby steps down to the beach. It was within walking distance of restaurants and we could pick up wine and cheese at the nearby markets. We drove to Positano, and they arranged parking for us at a nearby parking lot with valet parking. So, we just asked them to bring our car when we needed to go for a drive along the Amalfi Coast.

It was cheaper than the other rooms in Positano with a view, but the room itself was very basic. We definitely paid for the view, and it was worth every penny. Breakfasts are served in the room so you can make the most of that view each morning. Check out Palazzo Talamo on TripAdvisor or Booking.com.

Hotel Punta Regina

Hotel Punta Regina is so beautiful that it really deserves a spot with our luxury hotels. Still, its prices are so reasonable that we had to add it to our mid-range section. Hotel Punta Regina is one of the best Positano hotels if you want luxury and comfort alongside value for money. The four-star property features light, airy rooms, and a stunning rooftop pool. There’s also a panoramic terrace where guests enjoy breakfast each morning.

This respected hotel has a collection of spacious rooms that each offer a private balcony. If you want to treat yourself, you can book a room with additional sea views. It also has elegant rooms to choose from (with Mediterranean-style decor) and a daily buffet breakfast. Hotel Poseidon is a superb mid-range place to stay in Positano.

Hotel Palazzo Murat

Hotel Palazzo Murat is at the upper end of our mid-range budget level. But for those wanting to splash out a little, it is one of the most impressive hotels in Positano. The stunning four-star property dates back to the 18th century and has historic and classy decor. Positano FAQs

Where to base yourself in
positano FAQ
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest

Now we’ve covered where to stay in Positano and all the best Positano hotels, let’s cover some common FAQs.

Best time of year to visit Positano?

The best month to visit Positano is in May. May is much quieter than the hotter summer months when the area becomes packed with tourists enjoying the summer holidays. It is a fantastic shoulder season as you still benefit from warm temperatures without the stifling heat and crowds.

If you can’t visit in May, we recommend choosing September. Like May, September is a shoulder season and has fewer crowds. While still warm enough to enjoy the beach, it is also slightly cooler. You can get involved with activities without battling the heat.

How much time do you need in Positano?

You can always use more time in Positano. We suggest a minimum of three days to really appreciate the area. With three days, you can spend a day relaxing in Positano, visiting Capri, and visiting Pompeii – the region’s two major draws.

Capri is a small island off the Amalfi Coast and definitely worth visiting. There are plenty of things to do on Capri, including visiting the Blue Grotto. Pompeii is a famous Roman town that was wiped out by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The impact preserved the town and essentially turned the residents into statues, attracting tourists from all around the world today.

If you have longer, definitely stay for around a week in Positano. In a week, you can relax more and settle into that Italian pace of life. Plus, you’ll be able to climb Mt Vesuvius, visit Herculaneum (Pompeii’s sister site), and explore more spots on the Amalfi Coast.

What is the best area to stay in Positano?

The best place to stay in Positano is right in the town center. You’ll be right amid all the action and steps away from the main beach. You can also make the most of having attractions like Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta and MAR Positano Villa Romana on your doorstep, which is great for maximizing your time on the Amalfi Coast.

Is it better to stay in Amalfi or Positano?

Amalfi and Positano are both gorgeous, but Positano is better overall. The coastline around Positano is more dramatically beautiful, and it has that ‘wow factor’ you probably want to experience. Positano also has an exclusive vibe that is an excellent introduction to upscale Italy.
