1) Valencia’s Historic Centre

You can visit the historic center of the city, known as Barrio del Carmen, where the Cathedral of Valencia is located, in Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical style. It is popularly known as “Seu”, as it is the seat of the city’s archbishopric… but be aware that the Cathedral only opens in the mornings (between 7 am and 3 pm).

In the center is also the city hall building and in front of it, the Palacio de Comunicaciones, which is better known as the Edificio de Correos. The tympanum (space on the building’s pediment) stands out at the top, featuring five sculptures representing the five continents.

2) Complex of Arts and Sciences of Valencia

Without a doubt, the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia is one of the most modern and special architectural and tourist spots in Spain. This complex houses: movie theatres, Planetarium, Science Museum, Art Galleries, trails, oceanographic aquarium, opera room, and artistic presentations, plus, a square for sporting events and concerts.

The City of Arts and Sciences is located at Av. del Professor López Piñero, 7, and is open daily from 8 am to midnight.

3) L’Almoina Archaeological Site in Valencia

As the name implies, it is a recent architectural complex, opened in 2007, which allows you to take a tour of the history and see the archaeological remains, which appeared in excavations between 1985 and 2005 that the city of Valencia carried out.

These excavations gave birth to many monuments, coins, pottery, and documents that represent the city’s history.

4) Lonja de la Seda in Valencia

This is Valencia’s silk market, a Gothic building located right in the center of the city. Originally it was used for the silk trade and has always been a major commercial center.

Today, it is on the Unesco World Heritage list and symbolizes the power and wealth the city had in the 15th and 16th centuries.

5) Plaza de Toros in Valencia

Plaza de Toros is a very important place for the Spaniards, due to the culture they have with this practice. 

It was built in the neoclassical style between 1850 and 1860. Its structure is really cool, forming a 48-sided polygon. It is currently owned by Hospital General and is located on Calle Játiva, close to the city hall and the North Station of Valencia. 

To visit, you can take a tour that has been running since 2013 and has a bullfighting museum inside.

6) Torres de Serranos in Valencia

The Torres de Serranos is another attraction in Valencia and one of the main tourist attractions in the city. 

These two towers were one of the twelve gates that made up the ancient Christian wall of Valencia, which is why they are also called “Portas de Serranos”. 

It is possible to climb to the top of the towers and admire the view of the city.

7) Beaches in Valencia

As a coastal city, the beaches of Valencia are another must-see tip, especially for those traveling in the warmer months and seasons. The beaches are not far from the center, and the best part is that there are beaches for all styles and tastes: from those that are full of services to those that are more preserved and less frequented.

El Saler Beach is a favorite of the city’s residents, with more than 5 km of very fine sand.
